About the Project
LIVING WATER-LIVING WELL
The Awendo Water Project (AWP) is a fundraising effort to provide clean drinking water to 400 households, representing 3,000 people in Opoya village, Awendo Migori County that houses the Motivated By Love King’s Academy pre-kindergarten through 8th grade school. The well will provide water to not only the 600-plus school children, but also their teachers, parents, and the people in the nearby area. Our initial fundraising goal is $20,000 to dig the first well. We will continue fundraising until we dig three wells in different parts of the village.

Update!
We sought to raise $20,000 by August 1, 2019 to dig a well, but only raised $4,000. The good news is that we were able to get basic water access to the children at the school! The photo to the right shows one of the hoses that provides access for drinking. We will continue our initiative to provide a comprehensive clean water portal that will have separate spigots for drinking, washing, and more. We still need you!

Most Water Resources
Due to the generosity of a number of people, our 400+ student school now has some access to water, but the job is not complete! We still need to dig our own borehole and provide separate outlets for cooking, drinking, bathing, and washing. Existing water sources are still largely from nearby rivers (Sare & Kuja), streams (Tar, Orwenyo, & Ogada), and creeks. These are the same water sources where sheep, goats, cows, and other animals drink and bathe.
The photos you see ARE NOT stock photos. These are photos we took on one of our recent visits to the area. |
Long Term GoalThe long-range goal of the AWP is to dig two more wells in other areas of the village so that people farther away from the school property will still be able to access clean water without having to travel a great distance. These additional outlets will provide separate spouts and spigots for washing, drinking, bathing, and showering.
