The SOAR (Special Operations and Redemption) Team members from the USA will provide personal and feminine hygiene items for the women and items such as shoes and socks to the children – all under the age of 5 years old – and other items as available. In addition to providing those tangible items, team members will visit the ladies and children as they have expressed that their friends and family generally do not visit them. Due to the location of Eldoret compared to Opoya Village and Nairobi, it is not feasible at this time to provide anything other than intermittent visits, but as relationships continue to be built, there may be future opportunities to provide ongoing and more consistent support.
With regards to Migori prison, due to its access from Opoya Village, Feed My Sheep team members will visit the ladies and young
children and identify needs that can be addressed during their monthly visits. A long-term goal of Dorcas Destiny International is to create a host-family program that can receive the children after they have exceeded the time they are allowed to stay with their mothers. A complete training and screening process will be developed to ensure the safety and security of the children. This program design in Migori will allow the women to stay connected with their children and hopefully provide the incentive to continue forward movement and work toward release to be reunited with their children.
As we continue to talk to the women and chaplains at the prisons, we will determine what additional services and supports can be provided to those families.
