Position Description
Overview
The Dorcas Destiny International (DDI) Board of Directors governs the overall execution of the organization’s mission, which is to provide tangible, physical, financial, academic/educational, and spiritual support to children and women in Kenya East Africa. Principally, the Board raises and manages organizational finances and sets long term priorities for programs. Overall, the members of the Board contribute to the educational, management, legal, and financial skills needed to ensure long term organizational stability and sustainability. The Board of Directors has up to 13 voting members. Terms are for two years.
Board positions require a time and energy commitment that should not be Board positions require a time and energy commitment that should not be underestimated. Candidates are urged to consider personal priorities as well as ways to contribute to the development and growth of the organization.
Board Member responsibilities include attendance at three meetings per year, whether in-person or via teleconference and active participation in electronic conversations. DDI’s attendance policy allows for involuntary removal from the Board if one meeting is missed without notice and there is no communication from the Board Member via either teleconference or electronic communications. Removals will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Meetings
• Conference Calls (Telephonic Board Meetings) for updates on programs, reporting, updates, etc.
• In-Person meetings will be held when feasible for Board members in the greater Chicago area. Non-Illinois members will be conferences in via video or audio.
• Text Messages, which are sent out in a group format to quickly and easily communicate.

Donations
As with any nonprofit Board of Directors, members are responsible for both cash and in-kind donations; 100% participation is sought; although the amount is optional, the suggested amount is $1,000 per year (“give or get”).
